The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is a semi-autonomous agency of the Pakistani government responsible for implementing fiscal laws and collecting revenue. It is one of the largest departments in the country and its tasks include formulating fiscal policies, levying and collecting federal taxes, duties, and other levies, and carrying out quasi-judicial functions related to customs and taxation. FBR is comprised of two wings: the Inland Revenue Service (formerly known as the Income Tax Department) which administers domestic taxation such as sales tax, income tax, and federal excise duties, and the Pakistan Customs Service which oversees import duties and other taxes collected at importation, as well as regulating international trade.
